Life is Short...

DS 2 experienced loss of a friend this week. He found out Wednesday that a member of last year's senior class was killed on his new college campus as he fell off a curb into the path of an oncoming car. The story is that there was alcohol involved. What a tragedy!

DS 2 has really not experienced a funeral before. He went to the visitation last night. It really hit him hard. I was so touched that he stayed in touch with both my DH and me (we were both out of town) as well as his Grandparents (who were in town). Thankfully, DH was able to go to the service with him today at DS's request.

It's never easy losing anyone no matter their age. But, it's even harder when it's a young life that is snuffed out so early. It's hard to think that anything good could possibly come out of this. Yet, we know that perhaps it can serve as a reminder just how precious life is for the young people who lost a friend. And maybe it will make some of them think twice before they make potentially harmful decisions.

And maybe it will remind them that life is very short and we all need to live it well.

Thoughts and prayers for your son and his friends. That's not an easy thing to experience at all...

Oh, that breaks my heart. I know your son was very saddened by the loss of this friend. Young people think they are invincible and they are not.
My prayers are with your son and his friend's family during this very difficult time.

Unfortunately this is a good lesson for your son. We just lost a member of our church this past week. She was in her 40's and had just adopted a Chinese baby. She had a massive heart attack. Your son needs to realize that the young die also. it is hard for them to realize...but it does happen.

How heartbreaking. I'm so sorry for your son. I can't imagine the pain in his heart right now. I'll keep him in my prayers.

Oh this really makes me sad. You never knOw how the death of a friend is going to influence these young ones. When Derek's best friend, Scott, died when he was 13 years old (cancer), I prayed that Derek would see how precious life is and strive to be the best he could be always. But that wasn't what happened. He DID see HOW precious life is - and then decided that if it can end that quickly, it should all be fun! He has NO interest in trying to live it "right" - only to live it fun! Of course, I still pray that one day he'll get it right. I'm just sO glad that all of your boys have a strong faith and strong Christian background! THAT will help them through SO much!!!

Death and a funeral are always sobering experiences and tend to put things into perspective for all of us. I think this is greater still for young people with another young person. This life is not what it's all about and we need to always keep our mind on the eternal things.

My son has lost several friends right out of high school and it was a hard time for him to try to cope. One was a young man that was like a brother to him and even now it seems like Doug should still be here and we all look for him in our family celebrations. I am so glad your husband will be able to attend the funeral with him. I'll keep him and the family in my prayers this week.
