Since I was singing at the top of my lungs this week, and I was revisiting all my old entries as I labeled them, I decided I'd resurrect an old idea and put a new spin on it. I love music. I always have. I decided, in honor of Easter, to list 13 of my favorite hymns/choruses. But I am not listing them by title. I thought it'd be fun to let you guess the titles by listing some of the lyrics. So, without further adieu, here's my list of 13 of my favorite hymns/choruses.
How many can you name? {Edited to add: I have posted answers at the bottom of this list.}
1. "And when I think, that God, His Son not sparing; Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;That on the Cross, my burden gladly bearing,He bled and died to take away my sin."
2. "Beautiful Lord, Wonderful savior, I know for sure all of my days are held in your hands, Crafted into your perfect plans. You gently called me into your presence, Guiding me by Your Holy Spirit, Teach me dear Lord to live all of my life Through your eyes"
3. "O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me; for the dear Lamb of God left his glory aboveto bear it to dark Calvary."
4. "Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth. Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide. Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside."
5. "I'll bring You more than a song, For a song in itself is not what you have required. You search much deeper within Through the way things appear, You're looking into my heart."
6. "I, the Lord of snow and rainI have borne my people's painI have wept for love of themThey turn awayI will break their hearts of stoneGive them hearts of love aloneI will speak my word to them,Whom Shall I send?"
7. "Well the bear will be gentle, And the wolves will be tame, And the lion shall lay down by the lamb, oh yes. And the beasts from the wild, Shall be lit by a child, And I'll be changed, changed from this creature that I am, oh yes."
8. "God sent His son, they called Him JesusHe came to love, heal, and forgive. He lived and died to buy my pardon,An empty grave is there to prove my Savior lives."
9. "T'was Grace that taught...my heart to fear. And Grace, my fears relieved. How precious did that Grace appear...the hour I first believed."
10. "I'm forgiven, because You were forsaken I'm accepted, You were condemned I'm alive and well, Your Spirit is within me Because you died and rose again"
11. "I want to see You -- To see you high and lifted up, Shining in the light of Your glory Pour out Your power and love As we sing holy, holy, holy"
12. "I shall forever lift mine eyes to Calvary, To view the cross where Jesus died for me.How marvelous the grace that caught my falling soul, He looked beyond my fault and saw my need."
13. "O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood,To every believer the promise of God;The vilest offender who truly believes,That moment from Jesus a pardon receives."
OK, I'll post answers later. Have fun!!

Wow...looks like I can't compete with the first replier(Connie)!
But I did recognize about half- I just couldn't remember the titles of some! (But maybe it's partly because it's only 6:39 am right now!) ;)
I loved this idea, Susan! :)
Connie wins.
It's amazing how the tunes just slip right into your head as you read the words...
I love that!
Great TT!!

Good Morning Susan, I am not good with remembering song titles!!! I enjoyed reading your list...
Mine is up for today.

I'm familiar with the more modern "praise and worship songs," but I'm at a loss to the hymns. I went to a Church of Christ as a child where we ONLY sang hymns, so a few of those lyrics sound familiar but I couln't tell you the title!
Every once in awhile, a hymn from that old church springs to mind. Lately I've been thinking about "This world is not my home, I'm just a passing thru, my treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue, the angels beckon me from heaven's open door and I can't feel at home in this world anymore!"
I must confess that I am not good with things like names. But I did remember each of those songs.
Wonderful post. Thank you for sharing. \o/
I want to do this w/out looking at the other posts or cheating in any way, shape or form.

4. Great is Thy Faitfulness
5. The Heart of Worship

8. Because He Lives
9. Amazing Grace
10. Amazing Love
11. Open the Eyes of My Heart
12. ? Grace, Grace, Marvelous Grace
13. Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, Let the Earth Hear His Voice. Praise the Lord, Praise the Lord, let the people rejoice, O come to the Father through Jesus the Son, and give him the glory; great things he hath done! (I know the title is in there somewhere ...I'm calling it "To God be the Glory."
Looks like I'm a little late but it was wonderful to sing may of them while reading the list! Thanks for putting the smile on my face!
Have a blessed Easter weekend Susan!

GREAT list of GREAT Lord honoring songs!! Great idea for Thursday Thirteen!! Thanks for stopping by my Thankful Thursday today and yes I know your advice is correct. It is just sometimes it is easier to say than to do. Have a great Thursday night. Sandy
Loved singing along with your post. I won't cheat and identify the titles as I type the songs for our powerpoint presentations at church.
I know that I know a majority of those songs, but this is where I get into huge trouble calling them what I want and not their proper names. I'd be better hearing the music and not seeing the lyrics. Just the way my weird brain works.
Thanks for the awesome remind of what this weekend is all about!
Well, I only got two of these - and really I was guessing - cuz I don't know ALL the words to either of them -- one was The Old Rugged Cross - and the other being Amazing Grace. The rest I have never heard of... but this really doesn't surprise me since I am used to all Catholic hymns. I rarely hear anything I know at my new church either. But I've decided I'll just have to GET to know their stuff!
